NEWS BLOG

Sad News (10/14/1996)

It is with a heavy heart that we at Chainmail Fun and Novelty Electronic Mail Services announce that our website, chainmailfun.com, will be shut down in the new year of 1997. Chainmail Fun and Novelty Electronic Mail Services is a subsidiary of the Thatcher Electronics and Internet Company, which is under fire from hateful rumors and accusations and on the risk of bankruptcy. To keep afloat, we must cut off funds to keeping server space for chainmailfun.com and to the subsidiary of Chainmail Fun and Novelty Electronic Mail Services. We are aware how much our message of fun has spread throughout the World Wide Web, and it has touched our hearts more than you can imagine. We are extremely grateful for your support through the 2 years we have been running chainmailfun.com, and would like to advise our users to keep their chins up. The World Wide Web is a wonderful place with infinite possibilities, and with the new millennium on the horizon, more and more of those untapped possibilities will be made a reality and the Interweb will grow into something even more beautiful. Thank you all for spreading the word, from the team behind chainmailfun.com.

Competition Winners Announcement (08/26/1996)

After a long and grueling competition and so many amazing entries, our judges have finally whittled it down to 3 winners whose submissions will become official letters on the site and receive a $50 cash prize! *drum roll!* The winners are.. Casey Lee of Albuquerque, NM with her submission: “The Electronic Caterpillar”, Sophia Walter of Brighton, MI with her submission: “Hitchhiking Robot”, and Ryan Davies of Boston, MA with his submission: “Bob's Army”! While we could only pick 3, all the entries were so amazing and fun and creative! We appreciate all who submitted. Thank you!

Addressing Controversy (08/12/1996)

Users, we are very grateful for your continued support of our website. We care about you, so it is important that we take the time to dispel the nasty rumors and accusations being flung at Thatcher Electronics and Internet Company, its founder Thatcher Robinson, and its subsidiary Chainmail Fun and Novelty Electronic Mail Services. We have been accused of countless absurd things from satanic rituals, blood sacrifices, and cursing our letters with demonic entities. We do believe that our loyal users are smart enough to be able to tell that these baseless accusations flung by mad evangelicals are founded in anything except reality. There is no evidence of any of this that our “Smiling Pooch” chain letter causes any kind of “paranoia”, “night terrors”, or “mental decline”. The World Wide Web is a wonderful place with unthinkable possibilities, but it is unfortunately also a possible breeding ground for misinformation. Stay thinking and alert to spot these lies. Be safe, websurfers.
